MURDER LEADS TO BANISHMENT by Ben

The streets of Verona are blood-stained once again.

Early morning on the 18th of March in Verona, Town-Square a street brawl broke out leading to the death of Tybalt and Mercutio and the banishment of Romeo. The people of Verona were left shocked as a fight that started out as a joke resulted and in murder.

Mercutio and Tybalt were both play fighting, trying to impress their friends. Tybalt then slayed Mercutio. He was left lying in a pool of blood- his mother weeping over him. Romeo Montague (Mercutio’s best friend) in anger then went to seek revenge on Tybalt. Later that day Tybalt was left lying dead in the middle of the street outside the church in a pool of blood.

The Prince of Verona was angered. The two families had yet again disobeyed him. This time harsh punishment had to be enforced. Romeo was exiled from Verona. If he returned, he would be put to death. The Prince hoped their deaths would bring peace to the city walls. “The battle needs to stop!” he said.

A by-standing civilian said that the fight was started by Mercutio. He was insulting the Capulet’s. He believed he was provoking the fight but Tybalt took it too far.
