Evacuation

Evacuation

The dark clouds cloaked the land, as I stood at the train station waiting to be evacuated…

I reassured my brother that we are going to be okay.
“But what about Mama and Papa?” he asked me. “Well when the wars over, which will be very soon, we can come back home to Mama and Papa!”

I patted him on the back and continued to wait for the train. I knew that I could only tell him what would make him feel better, even when most of it wasn’t true.

I could taste the bitter fog seep down my throat and into my lungs. I heard the high pitched yelling coming from all around me. It felt like a bomb had already pierced my heart. I could see the pieces of paper hanging on the kids necks all around me like leaves blowing in the wind.
“Where are we going?” Fred asked while clinging to my macintosh. I looked into his eyes and lied to his face, “Somewhere magical with butterflies and fairies and little bunnies we’ll be very happy there.” When really, I did not know.

The train pulled up beside the platform with a roaring scream, Fred suddenly decided he didn’t want to go and started to back away faster and faster until he was running. He crashed into a tall man who picked him up, as if he was a dog, and carried him to the train.
I quickly ran up to the tall man who then thought I was trying to run away too and picked me up as well and threw us on to the train carelessly.

“Owwww!” Fred wailed. “That really hurt!” “I know but thats the hard part done its going to be a fun train ride!” I replied, man was I wrong. The train threw us about as we made our way to the countryside. One of the men got sick from being bumped around and he threw up all over the floor. “Ewww!” People yelled at him. After a long ride on the train of being bumped, whacked, feeling sick and sore we finally made it to the country! We waited patiently for somebody to come and get us. Eventually a stern lady walked up to us, she looked at Fred's tag and said “This is the one!” She yelled and took him away. “HELP!” Fred called to me. “Just be happy and don’t worry!” I called back.
Another lady soon did the same with me. I went to a freaky old house on top of a hill. “This is where you’ll be staying for a few months. Better be good child! I own a belt, one tough belt!” She warned. Suddenly I didn’t feel like a ‘glass half full’ person...
