National Young Leaders Day NZ

On Monday 10th of June some of the senior students from Muritai School caught a bus into town to NYLD (National Young Leaders Day). At this event there were 5 speakers Billy Graham, Rachel Taulelie, Charlie Laumatia, Allison Mooney and Cam Calkeon. Also at the end there was a special performance by Jamie McDell she sung two songs for us. There were heaps of students from different schools around NZ.

All of the speakers were really cool and inspiring but my favourite was Cam Calkoen!
Cam was an awesome person with a funny personality, he says that when he was a young boy he HATED talking infront of audiences but now he enjoys it. But he still gets nervous at the beginning!
Cam likes sport and in school he always wanted to come first. He wanted to drop out of school in his earlier life but he decided that dropping out of school was kind of dropping out of life! Cam had lots of cool words and sentances to inspirer but my favourite was "focus on what you can do not what you can't do"
Cam was AWESOME!

Billy Graham was also there, he is a boxer. He was HILARIOUS! Billy had the funniest personality of all. He told us that being different is good and everyone is good at something. He is bold, bouncy and brimming over with energy and enthusiasm. Billy said that he wasn't the smartest of students but he tried his best and never gave up!

Rachel Taulelie was from Otaki and she is a FISHER!
She began fishing when she was a young girl but she only caught small fish then.
Rachel inspired us to dream big and told us about lots of different heroes from around the world. She also told us that you can do anything if you just keep trying and believe is yourself.

Then we had Allison Mooney she just told us a few things about different personalities and how everyone is different.

Last is Charlie Laumatia he is from Auckland and he is part Samoan. Charlie was also a funny guy and told us hilarious story's from the past. He told us that when you do something wrong it's ok and just own up and tell the truth, you will learn from your mistakes. Also that we all need to be nice and kind to each other and trust our friends and believe in them.
