I am the sea

I'll keep moving, swaying in and out of the shore, crashing through rocks and sweeping the ocean floor. You keep swimming, with your big goggle glasses, and your black rubber wetsuit, wanting to explore. I’ll be here, right next to the beach dragging in shells and seaweed and driftwood for you to reach. You’ll be there, throwing in string attached to hooks ready to fling. I'll keep swaying, getting heaved here and there. My little fish gasping for air.You keep coming with your heavy diving suit, tanks and cameras and hot pursuit. Some of my fish live down beneath the ocean, ones that you haven’t caught before, I’ll hide them so nobody will know them. But you’ll still be there, still wanting to explore, taking my fish and wanting some more. I am the place where the screaming birds flock, where the sea monsters lurk and the fishermen stock. You say “encore” but not to me, no, but to the surfers, catching my waves until they withdraw. You keep swimming, with your swimming suit on, your goggles in your hand, feet slowly touch the sand. I'll keep moving, I’ll always be here, I’ll crash through the rocks and sweep the sand, I’ll sway in and out, to and fro, up and down. I am the sea ~Emma
