Jason Kelly Homework by Seth

Jason Kelly (born December 9 1971 in Wellington. He is currently residing in Ngaruawhaia, Hamilton, New Zealand) is a New Zealand Artist whom he states: "creating hand brushed wonders on wood." Displaying Class A pieces in exhibitions all around the country Jason Kelly works locally and commercially and accepts commissions. Foxton Fizz, Ripe, Go Bang Espresso, all of these companies and their assets have been trademarked with his artistic design skills. The Exponents a famous Kiwi band have had a piece of art; a guitar made by Jason covered in lyrics from their hits like: "Why does love do this to me..." Jason Kelly is renowned for his retro art bringing the medium of wood into regular use. All of his pieces are great. But his Kiwi series include some of the most iconic pieces based on The Land of the Long White Cloud or as we call it: home. Out of that varied series I have chosen a favourite; North Island. Wood is the medium he used for this piece and to paint it he relies on the quick drying acrylic paints. North Island brings irony and humour to historical figures. In the background I notice the fatigued fibres of wood and acutely faded paint giving it a retro and antique style. However the text is probably the first thing you notice: "land of the long white cloud north is that way"; the way that the hand situated to the right of the piece is pointed to. In terms of the purpose Jason composed it I am not sure he is probably just displaying his pride for his home.
The composition of this painting is chronologically correct. The text is not distorted and the objects and motifs are all placed in a correct area of space. To make the painting bold he has added a third dimension to the text on the bottom line of the wooden "beaut". The significance of the components, truly make this an outstanding piece: "Ka Pai Jason. Jason as part of his job does commissions and will compose anything that is possible. If I could commission him I would...um...well... I would want him to paint the front of my house in clear view of trespassers of all his pieces he has composed to remind everyone of what a great artist he is and give our country the title: "Beaut".
