What a fantastic start to the term! We spent the day reading Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (the condensed version of course!). A tragic story of star-crossed lovers. We also spent some of the day discussing some of the theme from the play and shared our opinions on them. What's your opinion on these statements:
1. The punishment for murder should always be death.
2. Teenagers can't understand what true love really is.
3. Killing someone in revenge for killing a close friend of yours is okay.
4. Good friends should stick together at all times no matter how wrong a friend may be.

I think that the punishment for death should not be death I think it should be just to go to jail for life.
I don't really know about the next question because some teenagers do know what true love is and some don't so I would be in the middle.
I don't think that is a good idea to kill someone who killed your best friend, because what would happen if everyone did that we wouldn't have many people living now.
I think that good friends should stick together know matter how wrong people can be.
I believe that if someone murders someone they should be sentenced to life in prison if they have killed under three people. However I believe that if you have killed over three people i think that you should be injected with a poison to kill you in the most human way possible.
I don't think that teenagers really can understand what true love is as they are just to young. I believe that from when you are sixteen and above you can make good decisions for yourself, and you are responsible enough to not cheat on someone.
I don't think that you should kill someone if they have killed a good friend of yours. I believe that your friend would't be happy if you ended up in jail for the rest of your life.
If a friend makes a bad decision that could affect his/her wellbeing I believe you should stay close to them to support them. However if it impacts you or your family in a negative way.

I dont think that is what they should do because the people might have a good reason to kill.
My opinion to Number 1.-I agree because its not fair if somebody murders someone and gets away with it. It should be a death sentence, not being chaged or anything like that. New Zealand should be tough on that, they're too soft on crime!
Number 2.- I'm 50/50 on this because if a teenager is in a relationship, then yes I agree but if they're not, then no I disagree. I believe you can only know what true love is if you are in a relationship with somebody that you deeply love.
Number 3.- Well, I agree with this. I would be really upset if someone killed my best friend and I would definitely want revenge and if killing was first, then I would want to do that. It's not fair if they get to run away with it in court, so they deserve to be killed or something similar to that.
Number 4.- I agree with this for the reason that everyone is not always right and you should never leave a good friend if you think they're are wrong about their opinions. Everyone has different things they believe in and there is not a certain thing you have to believe in or think is right. Also, your good friends is always the ones that'll be right by your side!
I disagree with the first statement. This is because there are other less cruel punishments such as life imprisonment, etc. This makes you a murderer as well, and finally, I don't think it's right to kill a person over a person.
I both agree and disagree with the second statement. I partially agree because teenagers are exposed to a lot of media and the idea of the 'ideal' look. Because of this they sometimes only look at the outside of the person. However, sometimes this might not be the case and they actually spend enough time with them that they might fall in love.
I disagree with the fourth statement because although you might be angry, it is not right to kill and you have to consider the consequences like you will inevitably be punished.
I disagree with the fifth statement because you should always follow your own instincts and never do something that you think is not right.

I think personally that the punishment for murder shouldn't be death because no matter how wrong something is no one deserves to die theres two sides to every story and death is never fair.
My thoughts on the second question is that I think true love is something that you will find later in life. Maybe now but at this stage in life everyone has a right to believe what they want and it might not be my place to be commenting on it.
My opinion on this one is that I don't truly believe that I can have an opinion. No two people are exactly the same when a friend or loved one dies your head can go to some pretty dark places it really depends on how you cope with the struggle.
Sticking with a friend can be the right thing to do sometimes. But if your friend had killed someone its better to tell because there would be a family or a wife who just lost there husband or daughter possibly. I just don't see how I could live with a big secret.

I think it should not be death because tybolt killed merctico and then romeo killed tybolt there is no why he should be killed.

Teenagers can understand what true love really is because everyone is human and humans know how to love other people!
I disagree with that because even if they do kill someone that is friend or family they should stil get a
major punnihment. For what they have done but the punnihment should not be death.

I think punishment for death should not be death I think it should be going to jail for a long time.
I'm 50/50 on this one teenagers do when they are in a relationship and if not then no.
I don't think killing someone who killed you're best friend Is not a good idea because you would also be punished but I do think the person should be charged.
I disagree with this because I think you should always follow your instincts and don't be pressurized by others.
I don't think that if you kill someone that you should die. I just think you need to go to prison for life.
Teenagers think they now love but really they don't and 20 upwards you should e able to have a good understanding of love.
Killing someone because they killed your friend is wrong you just need to celebrate your friends life and hope that the police will catch there killer.
If your friend makes a bad decision that affects your life I would hate them but not so bad that you kill them.

If someone killed someone then they should go into prison for life but if someone killed more than one person they should die somehow.
Teenagers dont understand love but maybe if you are over 20 then you might understand love.
If someone killed a good friend of yours then you should just celebrate there life and not get to angry with the person who killed your friend.
No matter what your friend has done you should still stick by them because you might be the only friend they have got.
By Shona
1.No because you will feel realy bad for what you have done but you would still have to get a punishment.
2.No because they would not know what it would be like because you will not have been through it yet.
3.No because someone may have killed your best friend but you should not kill them back because if you do then both of you would get in trouble.
4.No because they may be a bad person to follow and they will not let you be your self.
1. The punishment for murder should always be death.
I do not agree with this because everyone can make mistakes and should be given a second chance but should definitely be severely punished. Anyway, the person who would kill you for killing would be doing murder and therefore would be killed as well and it would keep on going like that.
2. Teenagers can't understand what true love really is.
I partly agree on this because teenagers go through a crazy time and at the beginning it is all about the first impression on somebody. But then again, teenagers can fall in love and often do, so I'm not really sure.
3. Killing someone in revenge for killing a close friend of yours is okay.
I think that you shouldn't kill somebody even if they killed your friend. This is because you would be doing murder yourself and there is no reason why you should or could kill somebody! Never!
4. Good friends should stick together at all times no matter how wrong a friend may be.
I think that you should stick up to your friends and help them make the right decisions. If however, they what to do something that is not right you shouldn't encourage them, instead, help them make the right decision

1 I don't think that it should be death because everyone had the right to live and nobody can take that away from you.
2 Teens could have true love at first sight.Usally you get to know the person first.
3 No like I said in question 1 every one has the right to live. If someone killed my best friend I would get really angry because it's my best friend that now dead. But I wouldn't kill that person. Because I would have to live with that feeling inside you that says I've killed someone!
4 If my friend did somethig wrong and I knew I would tell them and if they still carried on with it,I would just try and help them make the right choice.

1. The punishment for murder should always be death. I do not think punishment for murder should be death, I think it should just be a life sentence in jail.
2. Teenagers can't understand what true love really is. I don't think that teenagers know fully what love is but have a pretty good understanding of it.
3. Killing someone in revenge for killing a close friend of yours is okay. I don't think that killing someone that has killed a friend of yours is okay because you might be angry but it not okay to just kill someone if they killed your friend.
4. Good friends should stick together at all times no matter how wrong a friend may be. It depends on what happens if it is just a little thing I think that you should still stay friends but if it is a really big thing I think they might need to just go apart for a little bit.
1. The punishment for murder should always be death.
I do not think that the statement above is correct because even though murder is horrible and cruel there is always another option then death.
2. Teenagers can't understand what true love really is.
I disagree with the statement above because obviously it shows in Romeo and Juliet that they had eternal love.
3. Killing someone in revenge for killing a close friend of yours is okay.
No, I do not believe that what Romeo did was okay and he most definitely could of done a better thing but I do believe they should be punished .
4. Good friends should stick together at all times no matter how wrong a friend may be.
No, I don't believe this but it depends how wrong the friend may be.
The punishment for murder should always be death?
I kinda agree because if you kill a person you should suffer the same Consequence unless you have been fraud.
Teenagers can't understand what true love really is?
I agree because teenagers haven't fully grown yet and still are amateur and don't really know what true love is, for example boys think that asking a girl out would be cool and the next thing you know they are breaking up. I don't think that's true
Killing someone in revenge for killing a close friend of yours is okay?
I disagree because killing someone who killed you best friend wouldn't make you any different than them, you would be counted as a murderer as well.
Good friends should stick together at all times no matter how wrong a friend may be?
I am sort of in the middle because, yes I want to stick with my friend for whatever they have done but I also don't want to get in trouble for it. But if that doesn't work out i would try to help him in anyway I can.
1. I think that the punishment for murder shouldn't be death because it means that we lose another life. They should just go to jail.
2. I don't think you really understand what true love is until you are older.
3. I don't think that it is okay to kill someone that killed your friend because of course it would make you mad but it doesn't mean you should kill him/her.
4. Friends should always stick together because they can help you make the right choice.
1. I completely disagree with this statement. Jail is better because it gives the person that did the sin time to think about what they did, it teaches them a lesson to NEVER EVER do it again, as well they can think about what to do to prevent this happening again, death is a bad option because death is a horrible thing. Large punishment is good but death is going to far.
2. I am going to say 1\2 and 1\2 on this one because most teens don’t understand how everything works in life just yet. But there are still a small amount of teens that are very passionate about love because they really do love it! But all in all-most teen relationships only last for a couple of weeks, a month or even only a few days! It isn’t as near as important to them to as how it is when they are adults.
3. Defiantly not. Because if the person’s best friend who died were to kill the person who killed the best friend they would become known as a killer, which would lead to not knowing the person the same way you used to. I think them getting extremely punished would be a much better option.
4. I would have to say more no than yes on the statement unfortunately. Because most friends that people have in their lifetime are not there to run your whole life. They are there to just be social with. But I’m not going to lie there is the odd friend out there that is just truly amazing and will stick with you for most of your life, or even the rest of it! :)

I onlyy think the punishment for murder should be death if they have killed lots of people.
I'm kind of 50/50 on this one. teenagers understand what true love is if they are deeply in love.
I don't thhink its ok because you would go to jail. So i would just let the police take care of the person.
I think you should stick with your friends at all times but sometimes its ok if they are doing something thats not very good to tell them.
1: I don't think it should ALWAYS be death, but if it was a brutal murder, then it should be death.
2: I don't think teenagers understand what true love is until they have experienced 'love' quite a few times, otherwise they think they can't love anymore then they are. Even though they can.
3: You shouldn't kill someone if they have killed a good friend. Even though they are in the wrong, you shouldn't need to lower yourself down to their level.
4: If a friend is doing something wrong that is effecting your friendship, I think you should just talk about it and stick together. Because true friendship goes through thick and thin together.
